A Perpetual Process Machine. Philip Howard's guest column is, as we day, worth reading in full. open.substack.com/pub/politicali…

It is frustrating that this is a real possible policy agenda that some party could get behind and it would largely be free.

Mark Cuban The Redheaded libertarian Common Good talks a lot about what we should do

And it's change our government from a labyrinth of rules

To one where people make decisions, and then we hold those people accountable

Instead of deferring to a 'process'

To be clear, we have spent five years studying whether or not it is environmentally permissible to demolish a derelict football stadium surrounded by empty parking lots or whether for some reason it should just stay there forever.

If headline editors would just add “using NEPA” to every headline where it applies we would have real permitting reform within 3 months.

Frankly they are doing the world a disservice by not adding those two words every time.

Good news on permitting reform!

The Department of Energy is giving a categorical exclusion from NEPA environmental review to:

- transmission projects that use existing rights of way

- solar projects on disturbed lands

- energy storage projects on disturbed lands

The Death of Common Sense Pt. 1,479,815

My 9-year old's class went to visit the Statue of Liberty. Ferry security searched his lunchbox and confiscated a butter knife.

Because, you know, a butter knife is dangerous.

Our flatware set is now short a piece. 🤦‍♂️

Democracy depends on people being able to take responsibility, to interpret guidelines and perform their jobs or service accordingly.

When a significant % of Americans no longer believe in democracy, we need a national movement to remake institutions! (2/)

Trying to make a society fail-safe creates a society that is sure to fail. Or so I argue in my latest Washington Examiner column, washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/column…, citing Philip Howard's book Everyday Freedom.

You cannot achieve any of the green growth policy goals of the Biden administration without significant changes in electricity transmission — permitting, utility regulation, financing, the whole deal.

We fail to recognize the cost, tax and friction that that the US legal jungle has created. ⁦Philip K. Howard⁩ has long argued (well!) for more judgment and less rules. Great post here and conversation with Philip and ⁦⁦Francis Fukuyama⁩ mailchi.mp/cov/nighttime-…

Matt Haney I would implore you to read Everyday Freedom by Philip Howard.

We need guiding principles and trust in leadership

Not Byzantine rules and thousands of pages of policies that no one understands amazon.com/Everyday-Freed…
