Making the most of the sun this weekend. First Wood Warb of the year, unfortunately the only one there. Don’t think it’ll be long until the spinning pennies fall. Plenty of redstart and pied fly though.

Finally got to visit the Grant Museum yesterday, lots of great stuff, thylacine and Quagga particularly special.

Really cool to see the flowering pitcher plants in Glasgow Botanic Gardens the other day. Really highlights the trade-off between being pollinated and not killing your pollinators.

Only 8 birds ringed this morning but the first willow warbs of the year plus a chiff I first ringed on 9/4/22 and then re caught on the 16th last year. Then a lush trip to North Gare and Greatham Creek with Sophie first Wheatears of the year and a leg-flagged Avocet

First Pintail, Hen Harrier and Red Grouse for Derwent Res. this morn. Plus, first Little owl and Greenfinch for Burnhope. As well as first Willow Warbs of the year and a pair of GCGs starting to display.

My first visit to Brasside Ponds tonight. First Sand Martins and Blackcaps of the year. Plus, a dozen or so Brambling were a nice surprise.

Great morning up the moors on Saturday. Wasn’t expecting the snow but managed to catch the back end of the Black Grouse lek, plus plenty others around, some nice views of SEO and lush company.

First Chiffchaffs of the year ringed, plus two Siskin controls in the same net round.

Couldn’t resist any longer but luckily everyone did the decent thing and decided to stay one more day. My First Lesser Scaup at Leighton Moss and Richard’s Pipit in Ulverston. Plus Ring-necked Duck, Bearded Tit, Marsh Harriers, first Chiffs and the constant booming of Bitterns.

Ringed my first Reed Bunting this week. Plus my second ever Brambling was a great bonus.
