He revealed that the NMPA TikTok license is up for renewal in April. if they were to walk away like UMG, this could have a widespread effect on indie pubs that use the license. (Ofc they could also license directly)

Good news and a welcome (and overdue) development. Because songwriters get a percentage of Spotify’s revenue, this means an immediate 9% raise. Prices need to keep up with the incredible value of streaming services.

2022 songwriter and publisher revenue by category. Distinct challenges. For mechanical, streaming prices need to go up. For performance, digital radio vastly underpays. For sync, songs should have equal value as sound recordings and mass sync sites need to pay better.

Songwriters/publishers have a digital radio crisis. In 2022, all PROs combined collected $467 million from terrestrial radio. In 2022, record labels/artists collected $1.22 BILLION just from digital radio.We need to wake up and confront this crisis head on billboard.com/pro/automakers…

Not a surprise, but disappointing, that Live Nation AEG and NACPA appealed the Broadcast Music Inc. victory in rate court that would require live concert venues to pay songwriters and music publishers more. Props to Mike O’Neill and BMI for continuing this fight for fairer rates.
