Dear Office of Public Works, Department of Housing, Local Government & Heritage, National Parks and Wildlife Service etc: the UK is investing £5.6 billion to create new #flood & #coastal defences across England between 2021-27! The equivalent € % for Ireland is a fraction of this. Large, long-term funding for community-led #NbS is a smart choice!

Shifting baseline syndrome also applies hugely to perceptions of Irish landscapes, incl. wetlands.

For example: wherever 'Clon' features in a place name, it indicates what was once a raised island surrounded by bog.

Usually, the bog has long since been drained, and *forgotten*.
