Among other things, St. Catherine is famous for convincing Pope Gregory XI to return from Avignon to Rome in order to end, finally, the period known as the ‘Avignon Papacy’ (1309-1377). She became a Third Order Dominican and was permitted to wear the habit of the Dominican Order.
