Countess Yvonne worked for SOE in France during WWII.

Initially imprisoned by the Germans while working in a French hospital in 1940, she swiftly joined the Resistance the following year.

Using her medical expertise, she saved the lives of many wounded airmen near her home.

Were you aware that the shores of North Devon served as a training ground for the D-Day landings?

This coastal area of England bore a striking resemblance to the beaches of Normandy, offering ideal rehearsal terrain.

Christopher Clayton Hutton was MI9's gadget man.

He invented ingenious escape devices that were hidden in everyday objects and smuggled into prisoner-of-war camps during WW2.

One of his designs pictured, allowed for Allied airman's aviation boots to morph into civilian shoes.

In October 1914, Louise de Bettignies transmitted messages between individuals trapped in Lille, and their loved ones in unoccupied France by writing covert messages using lemon juice on her petticoat. Upon arrival, she ironed out the coat to reveal the secret message.
