The female inspector today was heroic and acted extremely fast. Footage of her sprinting through the shopping centre by herself towards danger without any hesitation, while neutralising the threat, and presence of mind to administer first aid. She deserves a medal .

For Valentines Day, as pure as Baxters love for milk, I had the pleasure of assessing applications. So many extraordinary researchers. If anything, this process gives me major imposter syndrome. Australia’s health and medical future is, however, in good hands.

Journals are overwhelmingly moving to “open access only” formats. While this is excellent for equitable access to consumers, it damages equitable access to publishing due to the exorbitant publishing fees. Thus, researchers with no funding are unable to publish in these journals.

Mini-academic milestone - Top 10 papers finally have >100 citations per paper, totaling >2265 citations between them. Of those, 6 original research, 3 narrative reviews, and 1 global study protocol. Interestingly, only 60% are Q1. Fallacy of Journal Impact Factors == valued work.

Today is Australia Day 🇦🇺. While I’m a proud Australian, I hope we change the date. 26th Jan 1788 was a horrific moment in time for our First Nations people. To celebrate modern Australia on this date is tragic. Let’s hope we find a Federal Government with moral conviction soon.

Things the #AusOpen must fix for next year: (1) for the love of whatever deity you worship, stop playing ‘Sweet Caroline’ during every extended break of every match, and (2) reverse the insane trial rule allowing fans to enter/exit stands following every game.  .
