The rising #HIV cases in #Fiji is a clear call to action & a shared responsibility. Early detection,education,sustained #ARV treatment,& well resourced health services is key. Most importantly with #community -driven approaches. More is needed NOW to avert a #Pacific #Crisis

Fiji’s growing #HIV epidemic is a concern for the #Pacific as Fiji is the hub of the Pacific for education, work and travel esp among #young people. Existing HIV vulnerabilities-low condom use, low HIV knowledge & injecting drug use is placing the Pacific in a fragile state1/4 🧵

I had no money growing up. My dad was a labourer and my mum did everything to make ends meet. Men worked hard. Women worked miracles. But education was free. As was the local library. I knew books were my passport to a better life. Happy #WorldBookDay

One of my favorite issues of the The Fiji Times was the one that printed like a redacted document.

In place of all the articles that were deemed censorable were the words ‘could not be published due to government restrictions’

•Indigenous rights are enshrined in the Fijian constitution
•Indigenous autonomy is viewed as limited, with Govt retaining a lot of control
•Indigenous people face the threat of legal repercussions if they do speak out or seek to be consulted about matters which affect them
