Let's get signatories into four figures before the bank holiday is over: Allergy UK's open letter calling for key improvements to allergy provision, care and research in the UK, including a centralised system for data collection.

Has this done the rounds? Flora plant cream. Looks ; based on lentils and coconut; no allergens, no 'may contain'. Non-compliant 'free from gluten' claim. Spotted in Tesco.

Not much new here, and the 'one exposure to gluten increases lymphoma risk' comment feels alarmist, but some followers may be interested.

Maya of Living Free From is developing a tool 'that will help people with allergies navigate ingredient management with ease' and is looking for volunteers to complete a brief questionnaire. Can you help? Link: livingfreefrom.org/pages/join-the…

An allergy charity has said that attitudes towards allergies have remained 'stagnant' for a quarter of a century. This seems to disregard those who have worked hard, with considerable success, to change those attitudes for many years, and I can't shake it off.

'Animal-free dairy' is approaching. I wrote two years ago on the problems this will cause in the absence of clear definitions for 'vegan', 'dairy free' etc. It would be great, Food Standards Agency, if we could know how it will be dealt with?

Excellent piece here. The EpiPen ale has made me wince. A personal view only, but I would stop short of asking that allergy be ring-fenced from humour. It won't work anyway, but expecting special protected treatment could lose the community support.

New to me: an 'entity' called adult ultra-short coeliac disease, characterised by VA only in the duodenal bulb (section of duodenum leading on from stomach). Patients are younger than in conventional CD.

Now with added comments — including 'stop moaning'.

Alex Gazzola I agree, products free from just one allergen have a place in the free from aisle. As mum to an individual who needs to avoid 5 of the top 14 (plus an additional 2 allergens), we welcome companies who do try to cater for this - there is definitely a place for them too.

A really good article and one I agree with. I'm gluten free - that doesn't mean I have to eat veggie, vegan, dairy free, egg free, nut free or anything else free. Lumping them together just makes food taste free too 🤨

Alex Gazzola 14 Allergens Free Well put Alex. I particularly liked the bit about inclusion. Describing a product as safe for everybody or no one will be left out is a massive bugbear of mine
