Appalling news for Welsh National Opera orchestra. Awful that this is even being contemplated – Arts Council England has a lot to answer for – this is the direct result of ACE's removal of funding for WNO's English touring programme. Let's hope for a fast resolution.

When I was 11, I hopped on a train to London, ending at the Guildhall School of Music.
For a working class kid like me, it was transformational.
Every child should have access to the subjects they love.
Great to set out our plan to make that happen, back at Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
A fabulous selection of music by Huw Watkins – Leonore Piano Trio Rachel Roberts and #OrchestraNova all in top form, not to mention superb sound from Resonus Classics. A wonderful collaboration all round.
Just fabulous to work with Clare Hammond and the simply amazing BBC Symphony Orchestra & Chorus on the wonderful repertoire for BIS Records. Clare was pretty incredible herself – incredible pianism.
Looking forward to this, especially Sarah Frances Jenkins beautiful new piece 'Cloudscape over Port Meadow' and accompany Martin Smith in some lovely Stenhammar – come along if you can.
