Good morning, John John Tizard & thank you, as always. As you say, Cecil's painting has become a bit of a fixture! Here's one which might also fit the theme! This is 'St John the Baptist Church' by Elwin Hawthorne from 1932. It is in the collection The Harris

We know you enjoy imagining Preston in the past as much as we do, and this painting by Edwin Beattie from 1850 helps us visualise what Preston Market Place looked like many years ago! 🔙⏰

The Port of Preston leaflet was printed by Guardian Press in Fishergate, Preston.

Preston Dock was the largest working dock in Britain until 1981. It was a major employer in the town, handling coal exports to Ireland and banana imports from the West Indies. ⛵

This collection of Roman coins was found by a young boy while digging an air-raid shelter in Beech Street!

In 1962, a resident concluded that the coins were found in the garden of one of the three most easterly houses in the west section of Beech Street 🏡
