The ‘Colchester Mercury’ - a bronze statue of the god Mercury found during ploughing at Gosbecks Farm, 3 miles south of Colchester on the site of a Romano-Celtic temple. Found just after WW2, the statue is now part of the collections at Colchester Castle. #FindsFriday 📸 My own

The door of the Skirrid Inn near Abergavenny. The front door has been carbon dated to the 1500s . The Inn itself dates back to 1100. Upstairs they used to hold the court. 180 people were known to have been hung inside!

On this relief from a funerary cippus a man holding a lyre stands between two dancing women. Such pyramidal monuments are typical of the region around Chiusi and depict the dances that took place during the ritual funerary banquet. (See Alt.)
