There’s no way anyone truly believes that teenagers in tents on college lawns w/ posters & chants requires men with guns to show up.

The police are summoned to threaten, to repress, to create fear. This is the core of their role.

It was never about community safety.

That’s because … nah, too easy.

My faculty harasser, who was found guilty of violating department and university policies by IU Title IX, was not banned from IU Bloomington campus. He was only banned from department space/events. Not banned from campus as a whole.

And yet this student was banned for 5 years.

Reparations for the descendants of enslaved Black people is not a radical policy.

What is radical?

Hundreds of years of enslavement, followed by Black Codes, Jim Crow, redlining, and mass incarceration, not to mention failing to address that harm.

Peaceful student protest has long been a catalyst in our movement for justice—and should be met with thoughtful dialogue, not state sanctioned violence.

The work of healing is not possible if we meet trauma with more trauma.

We cannot make the same mistakes of generations past.

I want to offer this as resistance escalates on college campuses. as a former activist & organizer, as someone who has been ringing the alarm since pre-2020 about the rise of fa*cism, I implore those of us who work with students to consider the following as we fight back. 1/n
