Mario Molina’s advocacy and scientific diplomacy helped to bring about the 1987 Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. He shared the 1995 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for work on stratospheric chemistry. He died in October at 77. go.nature.com/32hVUdK

#OnThisDay in 1895, Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen discovered X-rays. The first X-ray image he took was of his wife Bertha's hand.
