A # of studies have shown that Medicaid expansion reduces crime. A new study suggests the mechanism is via access to mental healthcare. Even if this won't convince states that have yet to expand Medicaid to do so, broadly expanding access to mental healthcare has large benefits.

If you view prisons as a place for retribution for past wrongs, there is little will to improve conditions.
If you view prisons as a place for rehabilitation because 99% of those incarcerated will return to neighborhoods, you reach the opposite conclusion.
