Dark Energy was discovered (indirectly) at the Large Hadron Collider. The Higgs boson has a complementary field that permeates all space and imparts mass to stuff. The field is dark, meaning invisible. Yet it's not THE Dark Energy that accounts for 3/4 of the Universe.

I didn’t mean to suggest that all neutrinos have no mass necessarily, just that the ones we know of don’t have the right mass to be the dark matter

Dark Matter particles exist and are observed. Just think neutrinos raining down from the Sun. They are dark, by which I really mean invisible. However, they do not have mass and abundances in the right range to explain THE Dark Matter that amounts to a quarter of the Universe.

Against the bright Moon -- I believe a waxing Gibbous Moon -- look for the Lyrid meteor shower, which peaks around tonight and tomorrow. Find the direction of the constellation Lyra to see debris from comet Thatcher

Black Holes are featureless beyond their quantum charges, like fundamental particles. Unlike possibly anything else in the universe, they may be formed micro in the Big Bang and macro as dead stars ⁦Quanta Magazine⁩ ⁦PRX⁩ quantamagazine.org/can-informatio…

We orbit this supermassive black hole as surely as we orbit the Sun. Behold Sagittarius A*, so named since the black hole appears beyond our line of sight to the constellation Sagittarius. The supermassive black hole is an electromagnetic power station.

In the 1990s, Stephen Hawking bet Leonard Susskind that information can't escape a black hole. In 2013, a discovery proved Hawking wrong. Hear Susskind explain the black hole war to co-host Janna Levin on the latest episode of “The Joy of Why” podcast. listen.quantamagazine.org/jow-306-s…

Nobel Laureate Peter Higgs, the namesake of the Higgs Boson -- aka the God Particle -- has an obituary in his favorite newspaper. At the press conference announcing the discovery of the Higgs, he wiped away a tear. He lived to see his ideas come to fruition.
