I had the pleasure & privilege to open the first scientific meeting of IPCC’s seventh cycle. Experts from 65 countries gathered in Riga this week will draft the outline of the Special Report on #ClimateChange & Cities.
Thank you to our hosts Kaspars Melnis & Jānis Lange.
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the @MetOffice last week & briefing & being briefed by their excellent team.
Their impressive work is critical not only for planning our day-to-day activities but also for informing us about #climatechange .
Looking forward to addressing tomorrow the next Changing Planet seminar hosted by Grantham Imperial. Livestream will also be available.

At the #CopenhagenClimateMinisterial , I stressed to ministers that if we do not act now, we close the option of limiting warming to 1.5°C as we will have used up the carbon budget by 2030, even with the current set of nationally determined contributions.

This Int’l Women’s Day #IWD2024 , I am proud to stress my vision for the IPCC to be truly representative & inclusive. #GenderEquality brings a balance of opportunity, responsibility & recognition. A full range of voices is essential to #IPCC 's work & tackling #ClimateChange .
Grateful to PGES for briefing UK Parliament about IPCC findings & future plans.
We are not on track to meet the three #ParisAgreement goals, but there are signs of progress. Without rapid, deep emissions reductions in the energy sector #NetZero will not be possible.
I was at #UNEA6 in Nairobi last week. It was a truly rewarding week and an opportunity to share insights into how IPCC assessments provide the scientific basis to tackle the triple planetary crises of #climatechange , #biodiversity loss & #pollution .
Looking forward to this discussion this evening on building linkages from science to action through policies to tackle the triple planetary crisis of #climatechange , #biodiversity loss, and #pollution .
