#IHL emphasises the necessity to protect the natural environment in armed conflicts to preserve lives, livelihoods, infrastructure, and ecosystems. Jules Amoti reminded us that failure to comply results in negative impacts, including on the food system despite ever-growing needs.

Armed conflict has several humanitarian consequences, including high instances of violence against women and children, displacement, separation of families&missing loved ones. The rules of #IHL provide measures to protect specific categories of persons affected by armed conflict.

Addressing the 6th Commonwealth Conference on IHL, Nils Melzer recalled that the fundamental conviction that all human beings must be protected during armed conflict is universal, as all States have accepted the #GenevaConventions @Alvinbotes #IHL

Day 2 of 6th Commonwealth Red Cross and Red Crescent Conference on #IHL is looking at Progress in the creation and strengthening of National IHL Committees, Progress in IHL promotion and education and Progress in Repression of IHL violations at the domestic level.
