For the week ending April 28, there were 5.2 days suitable for fieldwork, according to National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 25% very short, 31% short, 35% adequate and 9% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 23% very short, 36% short, 35% adequate and 6% surplus.

Kansas crop conditions continue to decline this week. According to National Agricultural Statistics Service, winter wheat condition rated 31% poor to very poor, 38% fair and 31% good to excellent. The five-year average for p/vp is 33.6% and g/e is 33.0%.

Leaf rust is well on the move in the central belt of Oklahoma. Early according to the calendar; right on time according to the crop’s development. Know your varieties’ expected reactions & that stripe rust resistance does not necessarily translate to leaf rust resistance.
