Upon serious examination, Britain’s homegrown terrorists aren’t dangerous criminal masterminds.

They’re mainly chaotic and cretinous loners, writes Simon Cottee: 👇

Important piece. A few of us have consistently argued that an 'equivalence narrative' between XRW & Islamist terror threat ignores the data to make it more digestible. And criminalisation of inadequate teens skews reality even further. 👇

Are acne-ridden white boys really the new face of terrorism in the UK? I look at the data, which paints a rather different picture. My latest in UnHerd.

This is exactly right & very few are connecting the dots. The classroom is a key battleground for Islamists seeking to gradually bend society to their vision & the delegitimisation campaign is slightly more open & pronounced in France, as I wrote here:

I wrote for The Critic about how schools are increasingly appearing as battlegrounds, especially in the light of Islamist pressure: and how there are no good options for policymakers in confronting it. thecritic.co.uk/the-school-as-…

While you were understandably distracted by world events, another catastrophic system failure of terrorist risk management in this country was laid bare by an inquest Coroner in front of bereaved families. There can and there must be improvement.

Interesting chart: jihadism is basically as bad as its ever been in terms of plots & attacks (although accepting the nature of attacks has changed) but we perceive it as a thing of the past only by virtue of comparison to the unusually bloody Islamic State wave 2015-17

failure to stop preachers who venerate religious assassins from entering Britain has partly helped to implant blasphemy extremism here. A new blacklist is needed as long as it’s used against actual extremist preachers & not right wing YouTubers or rappers:

Given that England, uniquely in Europe, has no discernible ethnonationalist politics, why are centre-left thinktanks and SW1 liberals so obsessed with “reclaiming Englishness from the radical right”? Me on the phantom of English nationalism: unherd.com/2024/04/will-t…

UK authorities are periodically pressured to ditch terms like ‘Islamist terrorism’. In Oz where they already ditched them, activists are still campaigning to control the language. We should bear this in mind next time it comes up: it’s not about the term
