Today is International Day for Monuments and Sites! Some wrecks are designated Scheduled Ancient Monuments and we have been involved with sites like SS Faith and WWII Tanks and Bulldozers. Why not go and see the artefacts from SS Faith currently on display @shipwrecksiow ?

Happy International Women’s Day! Our workforce is 85% female and the work we do includes outreach, desk-based assessments, intertidal excavation, working offshore and diving submerged sites. Who does this work is never based on gender and we aim to #InspireInclusion every day.

Over the weekend, some suspected archaeology washed on the foreshore from the recent windy weather was reported to us. This was a great opportunity to use our new Artec Eva scanner so that we could quickly record the object and rapidly process the models.

Forams (foraminifera) are single-celled organisms that have existed for ~540 million years sometimes found in geotechnical cores. We analyse them in our geoarchaeological assessments for offshore developments to determine when sediments are from and what the environment was like.

National #STEM Day celebrates the fields of #science , #technology , #engineering and #mathematics . Although #archaeology is considered a social science, #maritimearchaeology utilises all four subjects in our everyday work, including #coresampling , #geophysicalanalysis , and #GIS .

We had a great day attending the very successful #annualgeneralmeeting on October 20, with #talks from various staff members updating us on all the exciting work that has been undertaken this year.

August ended our #UKdiving season with many successful dives at #BouldnorCliff assessing the submerged #Mesolithic landscape and #cannons with Historic England. It was a pleasure to welcome and work with several #volunteer #divers !

For #WorldRiversDay we are celebrating #palaeochannels , which can be used to show a timescale of past landscapes. #Geotechnical cores can contain evidence of settlements and environments around these previous river systems and how past people, flora and fauna engaged with them.
