5) The Taliban has all the legitimacy it ever wanted by getting the U.S. to leave, resurrecting the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, and imposing its brand of Sharia, or Islamic law.

4) Policymakers lied to themselves and you by saying the Taliban wanted things like 'international legitimacy' and other nonsense. If the policymakers believed the lies, they indeed are fools. If they didn't, they are duplicitous.

3) This was the fallacy of 'leverage' against the Taliban. The U.S. lost all 'leverage' when it signed the 'peace deal' and then withdrew in a humiliating fashion. Pretending that any 'leverage' existed was always a fantasy.
