Sometimes, all the effort put into social media seems cost prohibitive. It can feel like jumping into a virtual mosh pit from hell and trying to surf the masses, but mostly crashing on your back to the ground as the crowd parts like the Red Sea.

If you've got a good voice, please don't f*ck it up & suck the life & soul out of your singing using pitch correction or auto-tune. Singing is NOT just about being on-pitch all the time.

Onetime, after expressing concern over ever finding an audience, someone gave me this advice to post on my website homepage: “Get in. Get it or get out. Got it!”
She was being playful, but I was reminded that what I offer as a songwriter is for a limited audience. I accept this.

Complying to hopefully obtain celebrity status or being that bump in the “road less traveled” ... even the unexpected view just over the hill? Authenticity might provide someone who has been listening to the same songs for decades a fresh new connection to their evolving story.

Sometimes, all we need to get through a difficult time is for someone to meet us where we are… maybe even drop down to our level without judgment or solution. Who better equipped to do this than a songwriter?

What I consider to be my best and most heartfelt artistic efforts are often the songs in which others show the least interest. I can’t help but wonder: Is this because of my own bias towards the content or am I reaching out to the wrong demographic? Anyone else in this space?

Been around a long time and written a lot of songs. Listen to enough of them and most people will surely recognize their face occasionally peeking out from beneath my blankets. At some level, in our shared humanity, along the way we’ve been experiential and emotional bedfellows.

Facing serious illness, I realized that streams from collaborative playlists weren’t going to provide me with the motivation I needed to continue making music. I needed to stop and own the truth. My numbers have taken a nosedive, but I want to thank all who are still listening.

I don’t care how much we have prepared or what we possess, there will always be those times that will eclipse even the “perfect life.” There will always be a “Hard Row to Hoe.” It's best to make peace with this and move on.
