Rain or shine walking was a key entertainment in Bath in the #Georgian period. People walked into the countryside, paraded around the streets and window shopped. When it rained the Assembly Rooms and Pump Room were the places to walk.

In Jane Austen's novel #Persuasion , the heroine Anne Elliot comes to a concert at the Assembly Rooms. Weekly concerts featured some of the most celebrated musicians of the day. Unfortunately, Anne didn't hear it all as she runs out part way through to talk to #CaptainWentworth .

In Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey, the heroine Catherine Morland visits Bath Assembly Rooms with her chaperones, Mr and Mrs Allen. But it was so crowded they found themselves overwhelmed with the sights, the smells and the people.

It's #WorldHeritageDay . We had to share a little on Bath Assembly Rooms. Built in 1771 it's a significant #Georgian building in the city. In the basement we've revealed original vaults and sections of stone floor. Home to 10 chandeliers over 250 years old, made for the Rooms.

Have you looked at the #balcony in the Tea Room and wondered about the railings? Believed to be original from 1771 we had some paint samples taken when we had paint analysis work carried out. Whilst the samples didn't go back further than 1963 the gold was confirmed as gold leaf.
