Last month we told you about the red squirrels which were introduced NT Castle Ward in a bid to establish a new population of this iconic native species - meet one of the newest residents on the estate.

February is short - but so is one of its best-loved wild flowers.
Clustered bravely in the winter soil, the Latin name for a snowdrop is 'Galanthus nivalis' which means 'milk flower of the snow'.

Good news from NT Castle Ward - red squirrels have been successfully introduced into the County Down estate.
Together with Ulster Wildlife, Belfast Zoo, DAERA and heartofdownreds, we’re working to secure the long-term future of this endangered species.

The red squirrel has been under threat in Northern Ireland, but a scheme to release more into the grounds of NT Castle Ward is hoping to revitalise the population 🌰🐿️
Red squirrels have been successfully introduced @NTcastleward in a bid to establish a new population of the iconic native species. The first four reds were released into their new woodland home from Belfast Zoo this winter. Learn more at:
