I’m still thinking about this research published here in Australia recently which revealed that two-thirds of university staff are exhausted, burnt out, and at high risk of psychological injury at work.

In 2020, the sector’s biggest wage thief, University of Melbourne management, illegally threatened 2 staff who questioned their pay. While it’s pleasing management’s been fined $75K, with >$160m stolen from university staff this behaviour is widespread. Urgent action is required.

ShiannonCorcoran💉x4 My late Dad always spoke highly of unions, he was very much a working class man. Fortunately I have never had a need for a union, but sit back in amazement at the work of the NTEU Victoria I have always paid union fees, as a sign of support, past and present.

Without urgent governance reform, unaccountable vice-chancellors will keep making terrible decisions that harm universities. FedUni management must abandon these cuts.

The threat to punish casual staff for seeking to be paid for the work they have performed demonstrates the urgent need for major changes to universities' broken governance model.

Some colleagues and I are working on a research project about bad PhD supervision experiences and the stories we have heard so far are truly horrendous.

Life (and your time as a PhD student) is too short to endure bad supervision.

Please put your well-being first and seek…
