1/6. Now the Institute of Economic Affairs, the right wing think tank that understood economic affairs so well that it inspired Liz Truss’ disastrous mini-budget, is getting in on the act of supporting Kemi Badenoch’s historical denialism.

Let’s look at the ‘argument’ here. It

Do narratives impact states' power relations? 🌎🗣️

The article by Dr Alex Homolar & Oliver Turner argues that ‘narrative alliances’ among states are not merely by-products of material strategies but also seriously shape power relations. Read > doi.org/10.1093/ia/iia…

Great new article by Alexandra Homolar & Oliver Turner in International Affairs about how actors use narrative agreement to forge cooperative behaviour and institutions. But agreeing on the normative basis of *policing* that order... Eco: We always need enemies!:

I think reporters as well as academics are being impersonated as author of bogus or AI-generated copy for various trolling/propaganda/mysterious ends. Scholars’ names ‘stolen’ in propaganda written by AI

Curious about how narratives shape the world order? 🌎

Dr Alex Homolar & Oliver Turner’s (@EdinburghPIR) article explores how the 'rule-based order' is used to describe states’ shared vision around security. Read ▶️ doi.org/10.1093/ia/iia…

Oliver Turner The University of Edinburgh St. Andrews University euronews Aleksandar Brezar 9/ Academics, as Dr Turner advises, should be vanity googling their names. Especially if you cover any number of hot button issues. So should freelance commentators. Worse, it is not safe to assume an op-ed published by a mainstream media outlet is legit

A good read on how AI is being used to momentarily steal academic identities - as very recently happened to me - and mask what looks like state propaganda as informed academic opinion

Article sadly published by another current affairs website. No checks run to ensure I was the author. Won't link to avoid promoting it. Again, I can't imagine this has only happened to me. I may never have become aware of it if a better editor hadn't alerted me. Careful everyone!

Editor's best guess: the article would be subtle propaganda masked as the opinion of an established academic. Undoubtedly AI generated. Probably took minutes to create, add my name and send. Without editor's due diligence it'd be live now. Can't be a unique case!

Received an email from the editor of a current affairs website to say they've received a short article pitch from someone claiming to be me. Looks AI generated. Anyone else experienced this? What would someone stand to gain by publishing in my name?
