‘Melisande’ was the first book I illustrated for Walker Books. It was written by Edith Nesbit, who died on this day 100 years ago. It is a wonderfully funny and clever story by one of the greats.

All children deserve a school library. Ireland could take the lead here. We have a great reputation as writers and storytellers and a great record in literacy in our children. A library in every school would show how much we value a good start in life for every child.
