Rather late to the game, I know, but reading and very much enjoying John Haffenden’s biography of William Empson. There’s even an MR James connection of sorts - MRJ was very close friends with AC Benson and AB Ramsay, successive Masters of Magdalene, Empson’s Cambridge college.

Greatly enjoying William Empson’s Milton’s God. Empson proposes that Satan, whom he greatly admires, is ‘a deeply conscientious republican’, ‘a rippingly grand aristocrat’, and ‘a Yorkshireman’.

Ok Twitter - something that’s long troubled me. What do you do with a possessive apostrophe after a title in inverted commas? Should I write <‘The Mezzotint’’s> (which must surely be technically correct) - or <‘The Mezzotint’s> - or even <‘The Mezzotint’s’>?
