Labor being decisively behind in polls is not surprising. State govts of this age with the same party in power federally generally lose a lot of seats. Bligh 2009 did well to only lose 9 but Rudd govt was still very popular then and Rudd=Queenslander.

Australia already has a national firearms register. The problem has been populating the database from jurisdictions. The senate heard about the problems in March 2021. The Wieambilla shootings in Dec 2022 highlighted weapons moving across borders. zdnet.com/article/acic-r…
