Matt Elmore J. Stiltgrass is up in Central NJ, about 2 weeks earlier than last year.

I suspect we will see some Japanese stiltgrass emergence this week. But probably still some time before crabgrass emergence since things cooled off.

Reseeding safety after preemergence herbicides applied in May. Good ryegrass but poor bentgrass establishment from a mid-August seeding. For unplanned seedings, check herbicide label for safe reseeding interval, especially if seeding bentgrass.

It's the time of year to keep an eye out for goosegrass breakthrough. Standard pre programs provided good control so far, but closer inspection reveals goosegrass seedlings. Scout for seedlings and apply post herbicides before plants get too big.

Early emergence likely one of the reasons stiltgrass is problematic. Most have not yet applied crabgrass preemergents.
