Deel van mijn speech van vorige week in de gemeenteraad. Als het kamp maandagnacht op Roeters eiland niet was ontruimd, hadden de afgelopen twee weken op de UvA heel anders kunnen lopen. Zonder politiegeweld. (En voor wie dit het belangrijkst vindt: zonder vernielingen).

Activisme en wetenschap zijn juist onlosmaakbaar met elkaar verbonden, dat is hoe kennis verder komt. Ik vind het zorgwekkend dat politici zich constant bemoeien met de universiteit; dat is pas onverdedigbaar.

Het Europees Hof voor Rechten van de Mens heeft meermaals bepaald dat bezetting onder beschermd recht op demonstratie kan vallen: de vorm is niet bepalend, wel of het aan algemene voorwaarden voldoet: vreedzaam en veilig. Ingrijpen moet proportioneel zijn.
