Great leaders do not tolerate inappropriate behavior in their organization. And that’s because behavior is a choice, not a skill set. A bad apple does spoil the barrel—unless it is removed!

Superintendents should ensure their districts hires ethically sound leaders with the right values and beliefs. No, ‘yes, but…’ hires. Then train them to become good problem solvers. Have a process in place that guards against hiring leaders based on friendship or politics.

Such a pleasure to join Andrew Hamilton School to celebrate Joyce Abbott's remarkable career. The school named its office 'The Joyce Abbott Office,' installed a plaque in her honor, and unveiled a portrait of Abbott Elementary creator Quinta Brunson alongside Joyce. Truly deserved!
