We already know that Antarctica is the 5th largest continent in terms of total area, which is around 14.2 million square kms. Here’s a pictorial representation of how much of the earth is actually covered by the Antarctic.

India presently has two research stations at Antarctica namely ‘Maitri’ and ‘Bharati’. At both the stations, research and investigations are undertaken to understand the Polar processes and phenomenon.

A study by Maroni et al., (2022), sampled over 1000 new Doris kerguelenensis specimens spanning the Southern Ocean & sequenced the mitochondrial COI gene. Results of a maximum likelihood phylogeny and multiple subsequent species delimitation analyses identified 27 new species.
