Evacuation Warning Now in Effect for Areas of Big Sur South of Rocky Creek

The Monterey County Sheriff's Office has issued an Evacuation Warning for areas of the Big Sur Community south of the Highway 1 Rocky Creek Slip out ahead of the forecasted showers and thunderstorms.

HWY 1 Rocky Creek Bridge Closure

Convoys scheduled daily at:
8am
4pm

Proceed to the Rocky Creek Bridge area to be guided.

Weather will impact the convoy later this week.

Visitor are urged to leave the area. Only residents and essential workers are allowed in the impacted area

ALERT: Due to Hwy 1 closure in Monterey Co., Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park (SP), Andrew Molera SP, Limekiln SP, Julia Pfeiffer Burns SP, & Point Sur State Historic Park, are now closed to day-use & camping. All camping reservations will be cancelled, and refunds will be processed.

We are coordinating closely with Caltrans HQ, California Governor's Office of Emergency Services, and CHP Headquarters to address a slip out on Highway 1 near Big Sur.

Thank you to the crews working around the clock to repair the roadway and keep Californians safe.

Convoys to start through the Rocky Creek closure on #Hwy1 at 12 pm today. Convoy to lead vehicles first in the north and then in south direction and will repeat at 4 pm today. Starting tomorrow convoys will happen at 8 am and 4 pm. Please avoid all unnecessary travel in area.

Here is a better map of the new Hwy 1 closure area. No reopening ETA yet. If you are a tourist stranded by the Rocky Creek Slip out, the Big Sur Lodge is offering a safe place for those in need while emergency personnel determine next steps.

It was a privilege to honor Senator John Laird on Tuesday for his dedicated support of SB 544 which updates teleconferencing requirements in the Bagley-Keene Act to promote equity and public participation through virtual meetings, signed by Governor Newsom in September 2023.

🚧🚧The full freeway closure on Highway 1 originally planned for this weekend has been postponed due to rain.

The new dates are set for Saturday, April 6, 2024, from 1900 hours until Sunday, April 7, 2024, at 1900 hours.
