New York is one of the only states that allows non-attorney judges to sentence people to jail.

It's an outdated law that can have dire consequences for those called before the court. Today, the Senate passed my bill, a common-sense solution to this problem.

I was happy to present proclamations to the student participants in this year's Puerto Rican/Hispanic Youth Leadership Institute Delegation at the Burchfield Penney Art Center.
