A lot of 'Tortured Poets Department' seems self-consciously poetic, at the expense of being lyrical. There are lines in there that might work in the verse but are disastrous in the chorus ('I'm down bad crying at the gym,' 'You're not Dylan Thomas, I'm not Patti Smith')
