We know how hard it is for a POC to speak up when they’ve been victims of racist abuse at work. But often the politeness politics of charity sector brands those that speak up as trouble makers, and excuses perpetrators by claiming that they didn’t mean it or had good intentions.

A charity leader said the n word, in full, hard r, whilst leading a session on diversity. She said the n-word to illustrate why staff shouldn’t say queer. The charity defended and excused her actions.

I cannot comprehend the cognitive dissonance from people who study colonial history but haven’t uttered a peep about Gaza. Studying occupation and violence but seeing it unfold in real time and not commenting. How? Even in passing interest at least, how?! That takes some effort.

It doesn’t have to be “as bad as Rwanda” or “as bad as the Holocaust” to be utterly horrifying in every single way. It is horrific. It doesn’t erase the horror of the genocides of the past for us to admit that the atrocities in Gaza are terrifying in every single way.

I survived the Bosnian Genocide and then went on to spend 15 years collecting testimonials and researching those horrors and that of other genocides too.

& I can unequivocally say that what I am seeing come out of Gaza is some of the worst horrors I’ve seen.

As Israel intensifies its bombardment of Rafah, Gaza’s remaining hospitals are struggling to cope, British citizens are trapped and injured children cleared for evacuation could die. I spoke to a Palestinian doctor about the horrors he is witnessing.

For what it's worth, I am stunned that there are so many activists, historians, experts, feminists, & authors who haven't mentioned what is happening for 7 months. Ignore the plight of the Palestinians if you must, but you can't see that this is a politically significant moment?

Rafah: a city of children.

Hundreds of thousands of them are sick, living with disabilities, malnourished or traumatized.

The children of Gaza need a ceasefire NOW.
