I reviewed Zeinab Badawi's new book AN AFRICAN HISTORY OF AFRICA for The Guardian - a refreshing, sweeping, detailed corrective to narratives imposed on the continent by others.

Spent a week Aspen Words in a memoir writing workshop with the inimitable Ashley C. Ford. So grateful to learn from her & to be with a courageous, talented group of writers who responded to my work with grace & creativity. WHEN WILL WE BE FREE? will be stronger for it!

Recently, Simukai Chigudu has been on such a creative tear, writing so prolifically, that he's actually started listening to classic books on tape while writing his own book, just to slow the torrid pace

He's seen here listening to 'Finnegans Wake' at 1.5x speed. Just remarkable...

LOL! Writing WHEN WILL WE BE FREE has by far been the hardest thing I have ever attempted to do in my life. I recently got a big extension on it cos there's so much more work to be done. Here's hoping that it's all worth it and the book can deliver on its promise! 😣🤞🏿

Such a powerful CASBS fellows seminar this week. Simukai Chigudu unveiled a piece of a memoir project that integrates his & his family's story w/the story of anti-colonial struggles in Africa

What does it mean & what does it take to truly decolonize one's heart, mind, and identity?

Reading Jonny Steinberg's virtuosic forthcoming book on Winnie & Nelson left me in floods of tears. A tender but unflinching look at the frailty of 2 people whose humanity is masked by their larger-than-life personas & their dizzying quest to direct the fate of a nation. 10/10 🙌🏿

Taking a break from my twitter break to say that writing a book is really damn hard. I feel like I'm pushing water uphill.

CASBS fellows Simukai Chigudu and Martin J. Williams both put themselves on the hook to crank out book drafts this year.

Here we see them not working on that stuff at all. It's just not what 90-inch screens were made for....
