Feargal Sharkey Environment Agency And if you want to see what 'moderate' status looks like to the Environment Agency, it's in the second half - same location.
From stunning to dismal. Don't let them tell you that is the new natural.

'England set to miss post-Brexit targets to clean up rivers by 2027.'

Original EU target was 100% of rivers in good ecological condition by 2027. In 2018 give dropped that to 75%.

Latest Environment Agency forecast just 6% will achieve good status by 2027.

As many scientists interviewed here pointed out, the main uncertainty in future temperature change is not a physical science issue: it is a question of the decisions people choose to make. We are not experts in that; instead let's ask the elected officials, CEOs & other leaders!

Climate experts were increasingly saying that keeping heating below 1.5C is near impossible, yet it remains the global goal. So I asked hundreds of top IPCC scientists what they thought. What they said shocked even me…

Runoff from roads and highways is toxic to streams and rivers it flows into.
It comes from multiple sources - traffic, road surfaces, paints, road furniture, spills, sediment.
It's barely monitored and treated. Read our CIWEM Joanna Bradley report:

National Highways is a public body with a board appointed by the Secretary of State.

Until a few weeks ago one of the board members was a certain Lawrence Gosden, CEO of Southern Water.

Obviously no connection with pollution incidents in any way shape or form you'll understand

Hot off the press, Stormwater Shepherds UK & CIWEM have published a report on pollution from highway runoff. Find out how polluting this runoff is & how the failure to apply the regulations is leaving rivers open to toxic pollution every time it rains. stormwatershepherds.org.uk/2024/05/08/bol…

When the Russian full-scale invasion started, I would probably not have believed that the war would last for 800+ days already, with no end in sight.

It is still hard to believe.

It is hard to believe that despite a coalition of 50 countries on Ukrainian side, Russia is…

Simon Collins Very extensive flooding on the fields immediately south of Flanchford Br at 8am. Floodwater also on the road on the approach to the bridge. Bridge itself had some standing water and river had clearly been flowing over it earlier. Br was only just clear of flowing water beneath.

It's a mucky picture - and every time the River Mole bursts its banks that overflow is going onto our farmland, onto our recreation areas, and into people's homes...

The May levels aren't off to a good start either...
