Today is the feast of St John of Beverley who died #OnThisDay in 721.

He was bishop of Hexham from 687. This is the church dedicated to him at St John Lee, one of the Parishes By The Wall East along with Haydon Bridge. Next week Ollie Dempsey becomes our priest. Newcastle Diocese (CofE)

St Cuthbert’s in the village will be CLOSED today while the wooden floors are being polished. The Old Church is open as usual.

The Newcastle City Temple Salvation Army Band and Songsters will be performing at Haydon Bridge Methodist Church. All are welcome: pay at the door.  Includes supper to follow.

As the sun sets and the Passover festival begins, I am thinking of my Jewish family and friends

We didn’t have a woolly (!) sermon from The Rev Nigel Warner, who preached on the risen Christ as the focus of hope and reconciliation in a divided world. But we did sing ‘The King of love my Shepherd is’.

#HaydonBridge has a connection with the poet #LordByron who died 200 years ago today.

His friend John Tweddell was born at Threepwood in our parish. When he died in Athens, he was buried here in the Theseum, the Temple of Hephaestus. Byron wrote the memorial text on his tomb.
