Another #CitizenScience mystery: A small stream is recorded low turbidity, low flow, low nutrient concentrations, on a sunny day with no rainfall. An hour later flow has doubled and water is brown and turbid. No rain. Another hour passes and it returns to clear + low flow. Why?

🌿🔄Despite substantial inter-continental variations, we have found in the distribution of trees among species an emergent property of the tropical forest system, suggesting that universal mechanisms may govern tree community assembly in all tropical forests!
