Now off to 1 of 7 shade houses at the center to check out Dr. Wu’s #vanilla plots.

The shade house is home to ~200 varieties from about 27 species.

His team is searching for the best varieties for Florida, and evaluating different trellising production methods!

Next up is their lab! They walked us through the bean curing process. The lab is working with several farmers in the state of Florida to establish their vanilla farms.

Take a peek at what’s next with vanilla from our breeders, Dr. Xingbo Wu and Manuel Gastelbondo, Ph.D. student. While there, don’t forget to check Dr. Geoffrey Meru’s research on calabaza, squash and other cucurbit crops!
