Tree foliage is an integral part of the foodweb, notice how the abundant soil life has processed all the spent leaves from autumn.
The Wee Mob play their roles perfectly and before too long they'll be browsing the growing leaves too, supporting the entire foodweb.

Useful thread which gives some H&I context to the ban on biomass in new builds.

If Magnus' figures are correct - and we have no reason to doubt them, given his background - then they raise serious questions about the likely benefit of the ban vs its costs (in the broadest sense)

Important new initiative to remind landlords of their legal duty to make vacant crofts available to new tenants. With land rights go responsibilities.

Donna made the point that Scottish Government supports creation of new woodland crofts but has taken away one of their USPs (potential self-sufficiency in heating fuel)

We need an appropriate exemption Alasdair Allan Ariane Burgess Rhoda Grant Fergus Ewing MSP et al on the CPG on Crofting

Excellent discussion on the ban on biomass heating in new homes on BBC Radio Scotland this morning with Andy Wightman & Donna Smith from Scottish Crofting Federation, Donna highlighting in particular the impact on new woodland crofts. Catch it on sounds from around 2:07 in bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0…

Mark Ruskell Thanks Mark Ruskell we might explore woodland crofts in the future. Our main point was - none of the new homes we are planning can be heated by electricity until we've increased our grid capacity. Until then, wood stoves are the only year-round 'renewable' heat source we have.

I also acknowledge the points from Isle of Eigg about options for forest crofts and peat use traditions in the islands which need consideration💚5/6

A very concerning tweet from a very concerning thread - can we get clarification Ariane Burgess Kate Forbes MSP?

And if confirmed, where does this leave domestic biomass as a potential forest product Scottish Forestry?

Not to mention the businesses that supply these rural communities; firewood merchants, harvesting companies etc. Most of which are small/micro/family enterprises just trying to make a living.
