Great review. 'The narrative weight in The Silver Bone is not found in Samsonโ€™s investigation of the murders, but rather in his attempts to find his place and navigate his budding love in a city in turmoil.' & Kiyv as a character here.
Thank you Yelena Furman for reviewing!

My grandfather fought, as (((others like him))) were exterminated en masse. If all four who would go on to be my grandparents weren't out of Kiev (now Kyiv) at the time, there would be no one here writing this comment.
Deep gratitude to all veterans. Victory/donate to Ukraine.

Olga Zilberbourg Yelena Furman Don't know if these have aged well, either, but at the time I was deeply impressed by Anthony Olcott's 'Murder at the Red October' and 'Mayday in Magadan.' Olcott lived a good while in the USSR and he really 'got' things most foreigners missed. buckinghambooks.com/book/murder-atโ€ฆ
