Chrisb Yeah, like, this type of analysis isn't worth anyone's time to begin with. But Blood Meridian is just a super weird, baffling point of reference. Louis L'Amour, sure, but no, let's go for the plotless book about a gang of lawless killers and their descent into a gruesome hell.
Chrisb I'm also not clear whether they intend to remake LOTR or do something different with a Middle Earth setting. If it's the former, which I originally assumed, it's got a major uphill PR battle.
Chrisb OK! I hadn't read any reporting on the matter yet, so that's good to know. I feel like something other than a remake avoids some of the problems I mentioned above, but it also runs into the same problem as Rings of Power in that it's essentially Tolkien fanfiction.
Chrisb And even though it's far less universally loved, I did see some of that passion in Rings of Power. So yeah, I'll give anything a fair shot, and maybe it'll even be interesting on its own merits. I just don't see it clearing this extremely high bar they've set up for themselves.
