The wording is very similar to the Public Order Act 1986 but seemingly neglects to notice that “insulting” was removed from s5 (compare old and revised).

Lack of constructive engagement is symptomatic of a wider trend of unrepresentative centralised decision making which has detrimented campus relationships. It’s time to change course, beginning with ensuring the safety of the students & constructively engaging with their demands.

We call on University of Leeds to respect the right to peaceful protest and assembly, and to constructively engage with the students’ grievances and demands, many of which are in agreement with Leeds University UCU resolutions and positions.

It is our understanding that the students’ repeated requests to meet with representatives of the University’s senior management have so far been refused, and instead matters have been dangerously escalated by blocking entrances & threatening to involve the police.

UCU Leeds University stands in solidarity with students staging a peaceful sit-in at the Parkinson Building University of Leeds in solidarity with the situation in Gaza.
