Rufus🏴🇬🇧 Agree it has massive implications but I don't see how senior officials can be seen to publicly stand against a court verdict - the rule of law - especially an assault by a police officer.
I'd be surprised if this is the end of it and the appeal will be interesting and significant
Rufus🏴🇬🇧 I guess that's my point - either there's a Royal Commission (or similar) to clearly redefine the role of the modern Police Constable or it slowly and painfully morphs and nudges into some other form through a serious of events like this one playing out in the media.
Stuart Glover Thanks for listening to the show and glad you're enjoying.
I'm not in a difficult position at all I just say what I see.
No sure about 'advocate' - I support good cops and dislike bad cops. I support good policing policies and dislike (and take the piss out of) bad ones. Easy 🙃
Alfie Moore - Comedy A constable is a citizen locally appointed, whose authority is undermined by the Crown. His main responsibilities are the ignoring of crime, the care and welfare of offenders, the compiling of statistics and the overseeing of public disorder.
There. 2024 in a nutshell.
A very significant event for UK policing where everyone loses. Outcome almost certainly:
- Confidence in policing down
- Cops prepared to detain suspects down
- Bus fare evasion up
Surely it's now time to formally redefine the role of a Constable in 2024?

Katy Barrow-Grint BBC Radio 4 Thank you for your help Katy - you were my bedtime reading for a while and I don't normally like big words😯
I know that you're passionate about tackling domestic abuse and so keep up the good work👍
I had the pleasure of talking to Alfie Moore - Comedy a little while ago about domestic abuse for his BBC Radio 4 show It's a Fair Cop
Comedy with a very serious message, including the great work of the #cutitout campaign encouraging hairdressers to look out for DA

Alfie Moore - Comedy If its any consolation those involved in the prison estates think it's all utter madness, not to mention the increased workload suddenly having to organise probation, housing, health and so on for people we get told on a Friday are released on a Monday
