“During the daily beating ritual, the men were forced to recite poems begging forgiveness from the “fraternal Russians” for Ukraine’s errant ways… One fragment went: “There is no Ukraine without Russia/ It’s as pointless as a lock without a key…”

It seems this interview sums up Western approach to Ukraine, as it has been defined under US leadership. Ambiguous goals and no credible path to achieve them. Some comments 1/

Est-ce que nous allons partir en guerre ?

Il s'agit seulement de dire :

Si vous allez trop loin et que vous menacez les intérêts de la France et la sécurité de l’Europe, alors nous n’excluons rien.

This is the most alarming story I've worked on in a while. The French billionaire Vincent Bollore, described as 'the French Rupert Murdoch', is trying to bring Africa's biggest broadcaster - MultiChoice, that's DStv, ShowMax and SuperSport - into his 'right wing media empire'.

“Heartbreaking” in this case a euphemism for how people’s hearts stopped working when East German border guards shot them for trying to cross the Wall

It’s a shame that some in Germany’s security establishment would want the zero-accountability culture to continue

… but that would be no good for Germany & no good for its allies.

Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann did the right thing by speaking out.

Russia can lose this war, and should. A defeated Russia means not only the end of senseless losses of young life in Ukraine. It is also Russia's chance to become a country where Russians might be protected by law and able to cast meaningful votes.

The shadow fleet of oil tankers enabling Russia's war and undermining global sanctions. Russia is making between $500 million and $1 billion US every day by selling oil.

They're rubbing it on our face and laughing at us.

Russia needs to lose, and lose badly. That's what every dictator on the planet needs to see. Our ability or failure to stop and punish Russia's crimes in will deter or encourage the aggression of dictatorships worldwide, and thereby determine the course of this century.

“It’s normal for Russia to lose wars. And, in general, this led RU to reflect & reform. Defeat in Crimea forced an autocracy to end serfdom. RU’s loss to Japan led to an experiment with elections. Soviet failure in Afg led to Gorbachev’s reforms & thus the end of the Cold War.”

“I will fuck your commander.”

This video reveals the mentality of Russian soldiers. It starts with evident abuse, but the situation is complex. The soldier is drunk, and many in Russia might endorse such a form of discipline.

So, what’s happening? 1/
