Brief burst of aurora in south Norfolk (52.5°N) on Sunday night... ✨

It's been the warmest day of the year so far in all 4 home nations. England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland all recorded a temperature above 20°C 📈

But where it stayed cloudy or with a wind off the sea, temperatures were significantly lower than this 📉

EAST ANGLIA - APRIL 2024:
🌡️ Slightly warmer than average (+0.8°C)
☔️ Wetter than average (144%)
☁️ Duller than normal (82%)

This is the 2nd warmest start to the year on record (behind 2007, data back to 1884), and the wettest start to the year since 2001.

What an incredible experience viewing the total solar eclipse in Bungay (Illinois, not Suffolk 😉)

Four minutes of totality featuring an eerie twilight all around, a 3°C drop in temperature, winds falling light and a glimpse of solar prominence and the Sun's corona... 🌑☀️

💧 Slightly wetter than average (111%)
☁️ Duller than average (82%)

This is the 2nd warmest start to the year on record (behind 1990, data back to 1884).

Pretty large hail from that #thunderstorm / possible supercell just west of Northampton this afternoon!

☁️ Decidedly dull (76%)

February 2024 was warmer than 51% of all recorded Aprils (since 1884).

This was also THE wettest Oct to Feb period on record and the 2nd warmest winter on record.

EAST: Santon Downham peaked at 18.0°C on Thursday afternoon, the warmest day of the year so far and around 10°C above average — more akin to the average for May 🌡️

We are currently on track for our warmest February on record — but still a couple of weeks to go...

EAST: Cavendish, Shoeburyness and Writtle all reached 14.7°C on Saturday, making it the warmest day of the year so far, and the warmest day in the region since Christmas Eve 🌡️
